The history of Taitung Forest District Office can be mentioned to the time of World War II, when Japanese occupied Taiwan.
After the World War II, the oofice was belonged to the Taitung County government as Forest section, construction devision. In 1946, the office was swiched it's administration unit to Taiwan province Forest Bureau, and named as Institute of Taitung Forest Management.
In 1999, the office had changed name again as Taitung Forest District Office, Forestry Bureau, COA. It's major responsibility is to manage, and control the ecology of Taitung Forest. Also, protect the precious plants, animals, and environment.
